A witness to Schwenkfelder Worship from the late 1800’s through the early 20th Century
Schwenkfelder Meetinghouses
Interior of Schwenkfelder Meeting Houses
Early Schwenkfelders in America worshipped in houses. By the late nineteenth century, many of these house churches merged into meetinghouses. The interiors are simple. They contained pews where men and women sat on different sides of the meetinghouse. In most, there was an elevated pulpit for the Schwenkfelder minister to speak and the Bible to be read. Heating was provided by a small stove. They lacked plumbing.
